How far is the nearest beach from Colombo airport [Sri Lanka] please?

I have a 13.5 hour stopover on Friday, is it feasable to go to a beach and back, although I arrive at 16.10!! Or is there anything else I can do to unwind and de-stress as I hate flying. PS. I have a British passport, do I need a visa to leave the airport. Thanks in advance. That sounds great, thank you

The nearest beach closer to Airport is Negombo beach. There are many star hotels in the area. But considering the unpredictable road traffic in Katunayaka – Negombo road it will be a risk if you only have 13 hours. If you have a day to spare, booking a hotel in Negombo would be the ideal. You can taste some nice, fresh sea foods as well.
