India lose to Sri Lanka in 96 world cup. However the match never finished. India was 120/8 chasing Sri Lanka’s 251 at 34 overs. 16 overs were left and 2 wickets were in hand, but the umpires declared Sri Lanka the winner. Why? I was a small kid back then and barely remember the details. All I can remember is that there was news umpire declared SL the winner without the match finishing. It was not D/L and there was no rain either.
I just got an e-mail from my friend with an image from a Australian news paper which says that Ajantha Mendis going to play for Australian cricket team. It is also said that Ajantha Mendis has an Australian girl friend. According to the report Ajantha Mendis will first play to Australian Victoria cricket team. Ajantha Mendis will be playing as their international player for 12 months and then later on he will be recruited to national side. This is an attempt due to the lack of quality spinners in the Australian cricket team these days. I wonder whether this news is true. Sri Lankans living in Australia must be knowing this better.
Sri lanka cricket is undergoing many changes after the world cup. First Sri lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara resigned from the captaincy and then Mahela Jayawardana resigned. After that Sri Lanka cricket selection committee handed over their resignation. They all say that they are resigning to pave the path for new comers who can develop their own Sri Lanka cricket team for the next cricket world cup. Sri lanka cricket coach Trevor Baylis also ended his term with Sri Lanka cricket and same with the team Physio. Assistant coach Stewart Board has been appointed as Sri Lanka Cricket Interim Coach. So Sri Laka cricket will be appointing a Cricket coach and a selection committee soon. Most of the time it is Minister of Sport who decide the selection committee members. Meanwhile i heard a rumor that Sri lanka cricket board has also going to be changed. According to the news report there are some arrangements to change the officers of Sri Lanka cricket who were frequently reported for corruptions and malpractices in preparation for the Cricket world cup 2011. So according to news Higher politician are interested in the sport and they are going to do bring some rules to Cricket act so that the next Sri Lanka cricket president can stay in the office until next world cup. Mr. Mathiwanan who is a well experienced Sri Lanka cricket officer and a former secretary of the Same is going to be appoint as Secretary again and it is rumored that someone called Sam from England is going to be appointed as Sri Lanka cricket chairmen until Namal Rajapaksha takes the office. So all these were what I read today in papers. But I am sure there can be lank help users who have very reliable information regarding these.
What will happen if Sri Lanka play test match without Murali and Mendis? I know they will lose by an innings every test match.
Did australia win the cricket world cup 2007 fairly against sri lanka? Was sri lanka batting in near darkness a fair way to end it?
Look at these pitches. Its so hard to make runs here. Plus toss is such a huge advantage. Why don’t these people leave more grass on the pitch and make them hard,so that there is more bounce and swing? Many wkts like mohali hav pace and bounce. But These pitches in sri lanka are so so dry. Like a 4th day pitch. It makes the game so slow and dull.
Former Sri Lankan coach Trevor Bayliss who was the coach for Sri Lanka cricket team for last few years has made some comments about Sri Lanka cricket while he is leaving the position. As my friend told me this involves his critical comment about politicians unacceptable interferences with Sri Lanka cricket and players. I would like to read his full comments and please provide me a copy of Trevor Bayliss’s media release.
Are world cup matches important not to be missed? Updates: Sanga, in that case they need not come to India too. Kanga, other teams did visit Sri Lanka. You mean these two teams were what the Eastern Lion said – cowards?
Do you think teams should do what Sri Lanka did in 1996 to win WC in the subcontinent? I mean should openers go on an all-out attack, and teams go with 3 spinners and 2 seamers ?
